Fuel Sender Lock Ring Removal Tool
Part # 384-985
$ 29.99

lock ring tool

I developed this little tool for removing the fuel gauge sender from the side of the MGB gas tank.
I maintain both my 1973 MGB Roadster and my wife's 1968 MGB-GT and have had to remove
the fuel sender numerous times over the years.

There is a 3-tabed locking ring that holds the sender in place.  Like most people whenever I removed
and replaced that lock ring over the  years I used a hammer and a small drift to tap on the tabs
to get it to rotate out.  Inevitably the tabs bend and require some effort to straighten out.

To make the job simpler and less damaging I came up with this little socket like tool that
mounts onto your 1/2" drive ratchet.   It easily turns the lock ring for removal and
re-installation without bending the 3 tabs.

The confirmed British collector car list of vehicles that this tool works on is as follows:

MG
MGB 1965-1976
MGC 1965-1976
MGB-GT 1965-1976,
MGC-GT 1965-1976
MIDGET from 1972 onward

TRIUMPH
SPITFIRE
TR7
TR8

JAGUAR
Early Sedans with Later Style Sending Units
XJ6
XJ12

The removal tool is made of solid ABS and guaranteed against breakage.

In the above photo of the lock ring removal tool
you can see the 3 notches that interlock with
the tabs on the lock ring below.

Typical removal method is to tap the tabs with a
short rod to force the ring to rotate.  While this
works it tends to bend the tabs and prevent
a solid and secure removal and
reinstalltion of the lock ring.
